LBMA Clearing Statistics for November 2016
The price of gold fell by 2.4% in November to an average for the month of $1,236 an ounce, its third consecutive monthly fall. Activity was buoyant with the average volume of ounces transferred up 19.4% to 22.2 million, whilst the corresponding value transferred increased by 17% to $27.5 billion. The number of transfers was up by 41% to 3,773, with the clearers settling fewer ounces per transfer at 5,894, down 15% on the previous month.
The average price of silver in November fell for the fourth consecutive month to $17.42 an ounce; 1.8% lower than the previous month, but still 25% higher than on the opening day of 2016. In contrast to gold, activity was subdued, with the volume of ounces transferred down 18.6% to 157.6 million with the corresponding value transferred falling by 20% to $2.74 billion. The number of transfers increased by 10.6% to 783, with the clearers settling on average 201,205 ounces per transfer, 26.4% lower than the previous month.
The average gold / silver price ratio in November was 71, broadly unchanged from the previous month.
