Conference Workshop

The LBMA has arranged for Caroline Braibant, of the EPMF Precious Metals Consortium, to attend the LBMA/LPPM Conference on 28-30 September in Kyoto. She will have a stand where delegates can enquire about the implications of REACH for their companies. There will also be a short workshop about REACH following the close of the Conference at 15.30 hours on Tuesday, 30th September.

Background - the LBMA's First REACH Seminar

In order to inform its Members about the process of pre-registration and registration, the LBMA held a first seminar on 24th June 2008. This was addressed by Tony Newbould of AJN Solutions on the generalities of REACH registration and by Caroline Braibant who discussed the precious metal-specific aspects. Download the proceedings of this seminar, including a transcript of the Q&A sessions.

The Legal Entity Issue

REACH makes it clear that importers of substances into the EU can and must register but only if they are legal entities. As there was some initial doubt on which companies would be considered legal entities for the purposes of REACH, the LBMA has been in discussion with Defra, the UK Government department with responsibility for REACH, which has kindly provided a letter clarifying the issue.
