International Bullion Centre Recommendation Number 1: Scrutiny and Verification of Supply Chains

Effective oversight begins with visibility. LBMA’s first International Bullion Centre (IBC) recommendation calls for robust scrutiny and verification across local and regional supply chains, ensuring actors understand the origin, risks and integrity of the gold they trade.

To achieve this, LBMA’s first recommendation is for IBCs to implement:

  • OECD-recognised industry schemes

  • Strong due diligence frameworks

  • Public reporting requirements

  • Tracking and disclosure of country of origin

  • Monitoring of suppliers’ sourcing activities

By strengthening verification, IBCs can identify red flags earlier, deter illicit flows, and build greater confidence across the market.
