LBMA has published the Sustainability and Responsible Sourcing Report 2023, which updates its readers on LBMA's key workstreams relating to our Responsible Sourcing agenda since the second report was published in November 2022.
The Report aims to increase the transparency of the LBMA Responsible Sourcing Programme. It reviews the refiners’ and auditors’ performance during the previous 12 months and provides details on the Country of Origin (CoO) of the mine supply and refinement of Good Delivery List (GDL) Refiners around the world. This CoO data is crucial for understanding the flows of gold and silver, and is a methodology which has introduced greater transparency for the refining industry.
We also report on how Refiners performed under the Programme, featuring case studies to illustrate any remedial action which has been taken to deal with issues of non-conformance.

Metals Focus Report
The Country of Origin data supplied by LBMA has featured in a report by Metals Focus, LBMA Country of Origin (CoO) Analysis, which takes a deep dive into the data.
This marks the second report by Metals Focus. The CoO statistics have been collected from every Good Delivery London (GDL) refiner, each of whom are required to identify the source of the metal processed using three categories: large-scale mining (LSM), artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM), and recycling. LBMA started collating this data for 2018. This report uses a dataset covering GDL activity in 2021 and so, with four years’ worth of information, Metals Focus can dig a little deeper into this subject and also to compare it to their own proprietary supply-side data.
