Save the Date: LBMA's Assaying & Refining Conference 2025

Mark your diaries for the next Assaying & Refining Conference, taking place from Sunday, 16 to Wednesday, 19 March 2025 in London. The theme for the Conference is Sampling and Analytical Methods for Improved Precious Metal Evaluation.

We are pleased to be joined by Kim H. Esbensen and Russ Calow as our keynote speakers for this event.

Kim H. Esbensen

Kim has been a professor at three universities and government research institutions since 1990 and is still very active as an international visiting, guest and affiliate professor. He was chairman of the taskforce behind the world's first horizontal (matrix-independent) sampling standards DS 3077 (2013) and in 2003 inaugurated the biannual series of World Conference on Sampling and Blending (WCSB). In 2013, he was awarded the prestigious Pierre Gy Sampling Gold Medal (WCSB6) for 'Excellence in Teaching and Application of the Theory of Sampling', and in 2020 he published the widely-used textbook Introduction to the Theory and Practice of Sampling.

Russ Calow

Russ started his laboratory career with Bondar-Clegg in 1983, eventually running the firm's geochemical laboratory in North Vancouver in 1989. In 1991, Russ joined Lakefield Research as head of their geochemical and environmental analytical services group, and played a significant role in expanding the company from two to six international locations. After the sale of Lakefield Research to SGS in 2002, he went on to become its Vice President of Global Geochemistry. Russ retired from SGS in December 2021 to set up his own specialty consulting firm, CLC: Calow Laboratory Consulting Ltd., providing clients with laboratory management and sales systems, quality control programs and laboratory facility design expertise.
