Programme

16 - 19 March 2025

The theme for the Assaying & Refining Conference is: Sampling and Analytical Methods for Improved Precious Metals Evaluation. We are pleased to feature two expert keynote speakers: Kim H. Esbensen who will be speaking on Unsubstantiated Complacency of the "Assay Exchange" Paradigm: Sampling Uncertainties with Hidden Economic Consequences; and Russ Calow who will be speaking on The Geochemical Laboratory Industry - 1980 to 2025: Where We Started and Where We Are Headed.

Further details from the programme will be announced in due course.

Call for Speakers

LBMA invites submissions for papers for the Assaying & Refining Conference. The presentations are 20 minutes in length (15 minutes for presentation, 5 minutes for questions). If you are interested, please follow the abstract requirements and submit your application to gdl@lbma.org.uk by Friday, 17 January 2025.

Sampling Workshop

Depending on the amount and diversity of the material encountered, sampling errors are typically much larger than assaying errors, very often endangering representativity. How can you guarantee a representative sample and analytical result?

Kim H. Esbensen (Senior Consultant & Professor, KHE Consulting) will be leading a three-hour workshop on the Theory of Sampling, which will include:

  • Principles of the Theory of Sampling;
  • What happens in the critical 'before analysis' domain;
  • Which errors matter and what to do; and
  • Resolution - the universal standard DS3077:2024 (3. ed.).
