Official Programme Now Live

We are pleased to announce that the official programme for the Assaying & Refining Conference 2025 has been finalised, including sessions and timings, and is now live on the event microsite.

Day One - Monday, 17 March

Day One of the Conference will kick off with introductions from Ruth Crowell (Chief Executive, LBMA) and a keynote speech from Kim H. Esbensen (Senior Consultant & Professor, KHE Consulting) on Unsubstantiated Complacency re. the "Assay Exchange" Paradigm.

The rest of the day will feature three sessions: one on Sampling, one on Refining, and the first of four Assaying sessions for this Conference. Featuring a multitude of expert speakers, including Debora Samuel (Junior Plant Metallurgist, Rand Refinery), Stefan Zorn (Head of QM - Laboratory, Agosi Ag), Giovanni Faoro (Chairman - R&D Strategies, IKOI SpA), Luca Fiorini (CEO, Tera Automation), Hannelie de Beer (Managing Director, Qotho Minerals), and more, various fascinating topics will be up for discussion, from sampling techniques and High Surface Refining (HSR), to quantitative determination of silver content using fire assay.

Day Two - Tuesday, 18 March

Day Two begins with another keynote speech, this time from Russ Calow (President, Calow Laboratory Consulting Ltd) on The Geochemical Laboratory Industry 1980 to 2025: Where We Started and Where We Are Headed.

Following this, there will be a session considering the LBMA Good Delivery System, the collaboration of digital and traditional fine metal skills, and a review of the Visual Guide to Good Delivery bars and weighing guidelines. Then there will be the three remaining Assaying sessions, each with associated topics, and a Conference summary and Q&A. Distinguished speakers such as Ann-Marie Carey (Associate Professor, School of Jewellery at Birmingham City University), Amanda Hefer (Senior Manager - Technical Assurance, Rand Refinery), Madeleine Theron (Manager of Data Science and Analytics, Rand Refinery), Dirk Wuestkamp (Senior ICP-Product Specialist, SPECTRO Analytical Instrument GmbH), Jonathan Jodry (Group Business Director, Metalor Technologies), and more, will lend their expertise to these sessions.

Don't Miss Our Mixers, Dinner, Workshop & Tour

As well as fascinating speaker presentations, the Assaying & Refining Conference will also be host to a mixer at the Royal Garden Hotel on Sunday, 16 March; a Conference Dinner on Monday, 17 March; and a closing reception on Tuesday, 18 March, giving you ample time to network with your peers in the market.

Plus, we are offering optional activities on Wednesday, 19 March in the form of a Burueau Veritas Commodities tour, providing a rare opportunity to see experts at work in one of the leading metals and minerals laboratories in the world, and a three-hour workshop on the Theory of Sampling, led by our Day One keynote speaker Kim H. Esbensen.
