Origins of Gold, High Surface Refining & Platinum Sponge Analysis

As the Assaying & Refining Conference 2025 approaches, our programme continues to grow. In addition to the experts who have already been announced, including our keynote speakers Russ Calow (President, Calow Laboratory Consulting Ltd) and Kim H. Esbensen (Senior Consultant & Professor, KHE Consulting), we are pleased to introduce a number of new speakers who will bring their own expertise to some fascinating topics.

Unravelling the Origins of Gold: Two Geological Methods Face to Face

Discussing the origins of gold and comparing the strengths and challenges of leading geological methods are Barbara Beck (Manager, Geoforensic LLC), who through her company is active in the traceability of mined materials, notably through the Geoforensic Gold ID tool; and Alessia Sironi (Head of Laboratory, Valcambi), who has served previously as the Technical Officer of Metallurgy, Deputy Head of Foundry and Production Planning, and has qualified as an official Sworn Assayer.

HSR® - High Surface Refining: A New Development in the Precious Metal Refining Process

Representatives from IKOI - Manuel Boscato (Project Engineer), Enrico Cappellini (General Manager) and Giovanni Faoro (Chairman, R&D Strategies) - and The Perth Mint - Jacques du Toit (General Manager Refinery) and Shaun Mc Ewan (Technical Specialist) - will join to introduce and explore a cutting-edge development in the refining of precious metals.

A Review of the LPPM & IPMI Platinum Sponge Analysis Round Robin

John Fairley (Good Delivery and Sponge Accreditation Lists Pro-Active Monitoring, LPPM) will provide an in-depth review of the Platinum Sponge Analysis. The Round Robin study aims to assess the consistency and accuracy of platinum sponge analysis methods across various laboratories.
