Kicking off Session 2: Sampling with her presentation on Comparing Sampling Techniques for Gold Bullion Evaluation, Debora Samuel (Junior Plant Metallurgist, Rand Refinery) is a skilled Process Engineer focused on optimising metallurgical processes to enhance efficiency and sustainability.

Her achievements include a thorough investigation of gold sampling methods that earned her the Young Author Award at the 11th World Conference of Sampling and Blending. She also developed a mass balance model for a silver plant, identifying opportunities to recover lost platinum group metals (PGMs), which could significantly increase revenue.

Joining Alexandra Levesque (Innovation and Development Department Manager, PX Precinox SA) to present Towards Sustainable Recovery: Collaborative Models for Gold and Copper Valorisation from Urban Waste, Kamlesh Melana (Vice President – Global Sales and Applications, emew Clean Technologies) focuses on identifying niche opportunities in metal refining and recycling to drive circularity and sustainable metal production by integrating vortex electrowinning.

With over 12 years of B2B consultative sales experience, Kamlesh specialises in managing long sales cycles, shaping product strategies, and driving sustainable growth across cleantech, specialty chemicals, oil and gas, and consumer products.

Contributing to the final Assaying session with his presentation on Further Challenges for ICP-OES in Precious Metals Beyond the ISO Regulations, Dirk Wuestkamp (Senior ICP-Product Specialist, SPECTRO Analytical Instruments GmbH) is responsible for the strategic development of the complete product line of SPECTRO Analytical Instruments GmbH, including application development and product support.

He has been active in international standardisation since 2005 and is a member of 34 ISO committees, including ISO TC 174 - Jewellery and precious metals.
