UK REACH - What You Need to Know, What You Need to Do, and Future Developments

Caroline Braibant & Emmy Richardson, LBMA; Frederik Johanson, REACHLaw; Silvia Segna, CIA.

In today’s webinar on UK REACH, Caroline Braibant (REACH Consultant, LBMA) welcomed Frederik Johanson (Partner, REACHLaw), Silvia Segna (Senior Chemicals Policy Executive at the Chemical Industries Association) and Emmy Richardson (Compliance Analyst, LBMA).

Caroline introduced Frederik, who gave a detailed overview of UK REACH and the current requirements. The requirements came into force on January 1, 2021, however registration deadlines are yet to be determined.

Frederik also covered notification deadlines for Grandfathering and Downstream User Import Notifications (DUIN). Many transitional measures apply to substances that were in active trade into the UK during 2019 or 2020, considered to be ‘existing supply’.

According to Caroline, Silvia “put the cherry on the cake” as she discussed the calls for an alternative UK REACH registration model to provide a simplified approach for non-hazardous materials, and issues surrounding substance groups and practical implementation.

Caroline then flagged upcoming stakeholder workshops organised by DEFRA, on which LBMA members will be informed, and other ongoing initiatives to bring these changes together.

Emmy closed the workshop by encouraging attendees to subscribe to the mailing list to keep up to date with the latest developments and to find out more information and resources on the LBMA website. Please email ask@lbma.org.uk to be added to the mailing list or if you have any questions on UK REACH.
