100 kg 999.99 Maple Leaf Coins

In May, 2007, the Royal Canadian Mint revealed that in addition to launching a new 1-troy ounce 999.99 fineness Maple Leaf coin for sale to the public, it had produced to special order a small number of 100 kg versions with the same design and fineness (with approximate dimensions 53 cm dia x 3.8 cm thickness). These have a face value of C$1 million and at the time of their launch, the value of the contained gold (basis the London price) in each coin was US$2.2 million.

In March 2017, one of the coins was stolen from the Bode Museum in Berlin and was never recovered.
