The Goldkammer, which opened in Frankfurt in May 2019, presents selected objects of gold from different historical civilizations. The museum’s focus is the importance of gold both as a material and a precious metal over the millennia. Established by Degussa, the museum’s diverse collection consists of permanent loans via several private collectors. The modern standard gold bars in the Rothschild Collection, some of which have surprising shapes and sizes, illustrate the role of gold as a secure investment.

The Rothschild Bar Collection, founded by the Australian branch of the London bank, NM Rothschild & Sons, contains more than 1,000 standard, unusual and innovative gold bars from 145 producers in 35 countries, with a total weight of 230 kg. In 1993, the first bars were acquired for what developed into a collection of historical and cultural significance. A separate item describing the genesis and development of the Collection has been prepared by Nigel Desebrock, who acted as the Collection’s curator for twenty years.”

The museum is located in Kettenhofweg in the centre of Frankfurt’s Westend district.
