Registration is open for the Sustainability & Responsible Sourcing Summit 2024, to be held at Hilton London Tower Bridge from Wednesday, 20 to Friday, 22 March 2024.
This event, hosted by LBMA and World Gold Council, is an opportunity for industry players across the precious metals value chain to explore the role of responsible sourcing beyond the lens of ethical sourcing, with discussions also covering the rapidly developing sustainability agenda.
As the Summit approaches, we would like to share with you a series of updates that make this an unmissable event:
Programme
The Summit will open on Wednesday, 20 March with a Welcome Reception at 17:00 GMT. The programme will run from 10:00 on Thursday, 21 March and conclude at 15:00 on Friday, 22 March.
The agenda will cover collaboration on gold supply chain climate plans, efforts to legitimise and integrate the artisanal and small-scale gold mining sector into legal supply chains, the expectations around social and environmental progress and how best to support the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. It will also highlight key emerging industry trends and promote engagement on the sustainability and responsible sourcing challenges facing the global industry.
Sessions that have been announced for Day One of the Summit include:
- Collaboration and Convergence on Gold Supply Chain Climate Plans and Actions;
- Structural Change in the ASM Sector;
- Adapting to the Evolving Sustainability Landscapes.
More thought-provoking topics, not to mention expert speakers, are still to be announced. So for now, let us focus on the topic of Session 2...
Structural Change in the ASM Sector
Moderated by Alan Martin (Head of Responsible Sourcing, LBMA), this session will explore the improvement of ESG standards in the ASM sector, including through government leadership and formalisation efforts in select countries. The discussion will also cover efforts by LBMA to increase direct sourcing of ASM material, including through the development of a sourcing framework/toolkit, the use of accredited gold aggregators, and cross-recognition between industry standards.
Contributing to this session is a panel of expert speakers: Gregory Mthembu-Salter (Phuzumoya Consulting), Diana Culillas (Swiss Better Gold Initiative), Rashid Ackahs (R.D. Ackahs & Partners), and Edward Bickham (World Gold Council).
