Fine gold cards were introduced by the Japanese manufacturer Mitsubishi in the late 1980s and enjoy great popularity today, particularly in Japan and other Asian countries. They are produced in various weights, the most common cards weighing just 1 gram and serving primarily as gifts. They feature an impressive variety of colourfully printed front sides, ranging from art designs, Christmas and birthday cards, calendars, signs of the zodiac, religious images, trophies, and calling cards. The most popular design shows the three wise monkeys (also of Japanese origin) who see no evil, hear no evil and speak no evil.
