The term ‘bar’ is defined differently from country to country. For Europeans, the shapes of Asian gold bars are often considered to be unusual. One highlight of Goldkammer’s Rothschild Bar Collection is the set of nine animal bars from the South Korean manufacturer LG Metals, which have standardized weights and a purity of 99.80%. The three animals – a toad (representing good fortune), a turtle (longevity) and a pig (wealth) – were produced in 1995, each in the weights 11.25, 18.75 and 37.50 grams. The heaviest bar shown is the equivalent of 10 South Korean dons; the two other bars are the equivalent of 5 and 3 dons. Some bars weigh up to 100 dons.
